Aiden's First Birthday

My Little Baby is turning into an Old Man.

So Wednesday morning, we woke up and went through our normal morning routine of breakfast and whatnot while Thomas took of garbage. When we finished there, Aiden took a nap, if that's what you can call it. Basically he slept for a few minutes between his crying because he is cutting his last one year molar.

I ran into town to pick up Aunt Ro Ro because she was sick and did a little last minute shopping and then back home it was because Uncle Josh and unbeknownst to us until we got home, Breanna, were here to visit because Josh had a few days off and Nana Faller was in the hospital, so they came up to see her.

When Rosie and I got home, Thomas was chomping at the bit to cut Aiden's hair. He's wanted to do it for a while now because it's been shaggy, but I wouldn't let him until Aiden had turned one. So off to the bathroom to give him his haircut. Thomas cut it with a beard trimmer while I held him. He didn't cry at all, just kind of squirmed and tried to figure out what was buzzing on his head.

After his hair cut, we ran into town to see Nana in the hospital and to get LP gas for dinner because I forgot to get some in my earlier trip. She couldn't get over how different he looked from his hair cut. I still can't get over it myself even a few days after the fact. It definitely looks better, but he looks totally different.

Then we came home and made dinner and then it was cake time!!

Be jealous of my amazing cake writing skills. You know you wish you had them.

He started out really cautious and then slowly just dug in and shared a little with Zelda and styled his hair a little. I was totally afraid of the clean up afterwards, but I just gave him a quick rinse bath before his real bath, threw the high chair cover in the washer and washed down the tray. Not so bad. You could tell the sugar was getting to him, which was hilarious. He was impressing everyone with his strong muscles and kept testing his vocal cords.

Then we bundled up and went outside next to the big bonfire to hang out with everyone to let the sugar high wear off and then off to bed. We were only about 45 minutes late for bed and he slept really well until his teeth started bothering him about 1.00 a.m. Then he was up for a couple hours, much to mine and Thomas' dismay, and then he finally went back to sleep.
We didn't open presents on his birthday. Technically he didn't open any of them. Although, he did use his bubble bath, tub toys and bath robe on his birthday. I was busy all day on his birthday (I put off the wrapping for his naptime on his birthday so he didn't see them and try to open it before hand, and then his nap stunk, so I never accomplished that feat) so the day after his birthday, Thomas starts to put them together and lay them in front of him. We also got him a cool play station area. It has a elephant, monkey and hippo on it, and you can play with balls that go throughout it. He likes it a lot. Other than that, we got him a teddy bear. We also got him a tough kick ball to play with. We were going to get him a cheap big ball from Wal-Mart but opted out of that because we though Zelda would pop it within seconds of finding it, so we got a tough kick ball thinking that would pass the Zelda test a little better and before I had even finished putting up the groceries, Zelda found it, played with it, and popped it. So much for being tough enough.
And that's about that for his birthday festivities. It's amazing to me how fast it has gone, and how much he's grown even in the past few weeks. But then again, I'm always amazed at that and suspect I will continue to be.
